One Last Push!
Well it snowed again…and more is allegedly on its way, which means more snow banks. Unfortunately my metaphors are proving to be prophetic. Rep. Huntley decided to not hear our Bill and dropped his Health and Human Services Budget without us. Feel free to drop him a note to voice your disappointment, but if you have limited time or energy, here’s what we need most right now and why:
We still have a chance at getting into the Senate HHS Budget, which Sen. Tony Lourey will drop this weekend. It’s a more difficult lift, due to the lack of inclusion on the House side, but still possible. If we don’t get into the Senate Bill this weekend, then we’ve lost this year. And we’ll have to come back next year bigger and stronger. This is it….the last push out of the snow bank….So, we need 3 things:
- Send a message to Sen. Hayden here. You can copy and paste this message or craft your own:
Sen. Hayden, thank you for championing our cause. We would not have gotten this far without you…please put on your Bill glasses and go to bat for us one more time. We know we have a shot if we can get into the Senate HHS budget. Help us get there.
- Send a message to Sen. Lourey (chair of the Senate HHS Finance Committee) and the rest of the committee :
Sen. Lourey, Please consider SF 111 the Jablonski Rodreick Bill for inclusion in your budget. We heartily agree with Sen. Kiffmeyer that this is a Bill whose time has come. We understand the immediate challenges you and the committee face, please remember the long-term challenges and opportunities represented in the heart of this Bill.
- I have sent a letter to Gov. Dayton in the hopes that I might convince his office to take an interest in helping our Bill make it through the process. Its kind of a long shot, but please consider sending him a message as well. This one will require filling out a short form as there is no direct email, but I think you’re up to it. HERE.
Gov. Dayton, I support the Jablonski Rodreick Bill because its time we invest in this important research for our citizens who live with SCI and TBI. We have the opportunity to speed the research that will bring life changing treatment options to improve the quality of life for tens of thousands of Minnesotans, save hundreds of millions of dollars in the state’s healthcare costs, and support our state’s reputation as a leader in medical innovation. As Sen. Kiffmeyer put it: ‘This Bill’s time has come’.
That’s it. Please give us one more big push. I’d ask you one extra thing (#4), considering our 3 or 4 day deadline. Copy this to all of your friends via email/facebook/twitter or in real life. Ask them to follow your lead and copy this into your forwarded message:
Please help us support our friends, by sending a message asking legislators (we made it easy) to support the Jablonski Rodreick SCI TBI Research Bill that seeks to speed the research that could cure the effects of spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.
Thanks for all of your help these past months. I hope we can celebrate a victory in a few days. You know I’ll keep you posted.
